Reflections on the Establishment of the National Licensed Guide Professionals Association — May 1

Today marks an important milestone with the establishment of the National Licensed Guide Professionals Association.
National Government Licensed Guide Interpreters play a critical role in connecting visitors to Japan with Japanese society. Their role extends far beyond guiding—they serve as bridges between cultures, systems, and values.
This association brings together National Government Licensed Guide Interpreters who also have perspectives rooted in Japan’s licensed professional fields (“Shi-gyo”). By integrating diverse professional expertise with practical experience, the association is designed to create new value within the field.
Our aim is to elevate the profession from individual practice to a structured and sustainable professional domain.
Through the sharing of knowledge, standardization of operations, and the development of a durable professional foundation, we seek to enhance the overall value of the profession.
What is required going forward is not merely the accumulation of experience, but the ability to design it into a reproducible system. The focus must shift from individual excellence to systems that consistently deliver value.
We will redefine the value of the National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter qualification through practice.
We hope this association will serve as a foundation for that transformation.
